Top 20 Things We Learned From "The Science of Timing"
We just attended “The Science of Timing” Webinar presented by HubSpot and it was one of the best webinars we’ve attended in a long while with so much great information shared (thank you, @Danzarrella). Here are some key take-aways:
1. Highest number of retweets (RT) occurs between 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm ET, and the lowest is between 8:00 am – 10:00 am.
2. The end of the week is more retweetable than the beginning of the week.
3. Click-through rate (CTR) is highest on Tuesday and Wednesday, and lowest on Monday.
4. CTR does not dip on the weekend. In fact, weekend CTR is actually higher than on Monday and Thursday.
5. CTR also spikes around 11:00 am and 5:00 pm.
6. People who tweet 22 times per day have the most followers.
7. Visit www.tweetwhen.com to find your most retweetable time.
8. Pages that post every other day tend to have more likes (translation: don’t flood the news feed).
9. Facebook sharing of links spikes on the weekend (especially Saturday).
10. To get the most attention for your own content and links, don’t crowd it. Post it (or tweet it) and then don’t post (or tweet) anything else immediately after. Let it stand on it’s own for a while.
11. Most people read email in the morning.
12. Abuse reports spike on weekends and early in the morning, but open and-click-through rates are also highest on the weekend (translation: don’t be afraid to send emails on the weekend).
13. Unsubscribe rates are highest in the first few days after a user subscribes to your email list.
14. If you are sharing good content more than 4 times per month, don’t be afraid that unsubscribes will increase if your increase your frequency.
15. Mornings are the most popular time to read blogs, but 40% of people do read blogs at night.
16. Men tend to read blogs more at night and women tend to read them early in the morning. Know your audience when identifying your optimal publishing time.
17. If you want the most views on your blog, post them around 10:00 or 11:00 am.
18. If you want more comments on your blog, publish on the weekend (comments spike on Saturday and Sunday).
19. If you want more links to your blog, publish early in the morning on Monday or Thursday.
And # 20, and perhaps the most important … “if it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense.” If you are using social media tools for business, it is imperative that you are measuring your effort and tying it to business results.
